Jamescape is thrilled to be one of the first organisations in the Liverpool City Region to be awarded the Fair Employment Charter's new Accredited tier, validating our employment practices as fair, just, inclusive, and healthy.
What is the Fair Employment Charter?
The Fair Employment Charter (FEC) was established in 2021 by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority (LCRCA) to encourage local organisations to follow best practice around employment, with a focus on four key pillars: fair, just, inclusive, and healthy.
Last year, Jamescape became a Fair Employment Charter (FEC) organisation on its first tier, Aspiring, joining roughly 150 other organisations ranging from councils to universities to small businesses. As a company that’s proud of being an inclusive and fair employer, it was a no-brainer to join the Charter to validate our practices.
Fair Employment Charter: Accredited tier
Back in January the LCRCA launched the second tier of the Charter: the Accredited tier. This tier asks organisations to go further in demonstrating their good practices along with its impact. For us, this took the form of staff testimonials as case studies to validate the impact of our practices on our team.
We challenged ourselves to be the first business in the LCRCA to achieve the Accredited status, turning around our application and evidence within a month of the tier’s launch. We’re proud to have achieved this, alongside our partner company Harker!
Celebrating at Mann Island
This week, a group of staff from both companies celebrated this achievement alongside the other nine organisations that have pioneered the Accredited tier, including Liverpool John Moores University, Career Connect, the six local councils, and the LCRCA itself. It was fantastic to be representing the FEC as a small business, showing that SMEs can have equally as strong initiatives and practices as larger corporations.
As part of the event our Chief Executive, James Barber, filmed a short piece on why the FEC is great for organisations. Thank you to the team at Mann Island for hosting us, Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram for presenting the award to us, and Colette Kennedy for all of her support with the FEC. We’re looking forward to becoming one of the first Ambassador organisations, the third and final FEC tier, when it launches later this year.
Why does this matter to us?
As a small business it’s important to us to get things right for our team from Day 1. Having good employment practices from an early stage empowers our team to thrive, and enables the company to grow sustainably. Especially as a mission-led company with strong social values, it’s important to us that we truly reflect these values internally as well.
We highly encourage all organisations in our network to get involved with the LCRCA FEC. For all organisations on the Aspiring tier, it’s well worth investing the time into going further to achieve the Accredited status. If you’d like some support with the Charter, or just want to find out more from an organisation’s point of view, please feel free to reach out for a chat.
